Today i.e 10th of December, 2025, is celebrated annually as [Human Rights Day. A history was made, United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the UN General Assembly in 1948, promoting universal dignity, equality and justice for everyone, regardless of background and serving as a call to action to protect these fundamentals rights.
Today we also conclude the 16days of activism against Gender-based Violence, (GBV) use of violence in any form including the digital violence on women and girls, GBV is fundamentally an abuse of power. The inclusion of digital violence highlights how inequality and abuse have migrated into online spaces. The digital realm has become the newest, most pervasive frontier for Gender-Based Violence, offering men in positions of money and power a powerful new arsenal for abuse. For such individuals, digital tools are not merely means of communication but are weaponized as instruments of control, surveillance, and silencing women & girls. Ultimately serving to push women out of public life and reinforce a crumbling dominance that views their equal participation as a threat.
At Cadira foundation working at the intersection of Law, Technology & Governance, we advocate for essential policy changes and specialized training for law enforcement and the judiciary to ensure a justice system that is truly gender sensitive and effective in combating all forms of Gender Based Violence.
We need more male allies, to join the force for fight against any form of GBV, including digital violence. GBV cannot succeed without the active, consistent, and vocal involvement of male allies.
